What is this about?
Just my personal jump at the opportunity of worldwide publicity the net offers. On this page you will find my words on different topics, I dont't claim any authority on any 'facts' I might state in the texts, but as the constitution (Grundgesetz of Germany, my country of residence) guarantees my freedom of speech and freedom of opinion, I will implement both by publishing my personal opinions here.

Why English? What good is aforementioned worldwide publicity if nobody understands the language? Obviously, English is not my native language, so please forgive me if I twist the grammar or unintentionally employ rude or even nonexistent words.

The very old human quirk of choosing a totem animal which has a special meaning to an individual or group, has long since been adopted in product branding. Cars, breakfast cereals, software, etc. pp. have been named after animals or utilise a mascot-character resembling one in advertising.

I couldn't resist and chose a hoverfly (taxonomical family: Syrphidae) as some kind of recognition feature for this page. Maybe a logo will evolve from it, maybe not.

Why the hoverfly? I guess in the case of totems conceived by marketing strategists, a certain animal is chosen for some of it's characteristic abilities and properties, including something I'll call 'likeability': is this an animal people will be able to look favourably upon? This likeability probably is the reason why most totems are mammals or at least vertebrates.
I originally opted for the hoverfly because I just like to watch the little bastards perform their incredible flying maneuvers and because they are the only insects I encountered that voluntarily let themselves be touched by humans.
However, thinking about it, the hoverfly's behaviour (hovering at one point, zapping to another very fast) makes a nice metaphor for the behaviour of web surfers... so maybe I had my inner marketing guy at work after all.
